Dangerous Open Flame Candles On A Table Causing Fire Hazard

Halloween is one of the best times per year. Candy running amok, funny and creative costumes and of course, fall weather! But the decorations at your home are sometimes a bit on the dangerous side so it’s important to know when to take a step back and figure out if you’re posing a fire risk in the name of pumpkins and candy corn.

Lights & Webs

Hanging fake spider webs is great because it looks scary, and really sets the tone. Of course, all of the spiders you’ve shoo’ed out of your home will now be asking themselves why they weren’t able to hang out if you were just going to put up webs anyway -- but that’s a subject for another blog. Hanging these webs near light fixtures or near string lights with heat emitting bulbs can cause fires to start -- which can quickly melt that bowl of regular size candy on your stoop.

Wires

Similar to the lights above, tripping and falling on wires isn’t fun -- but it’s important that they’re somewhere on the lawn to power the inflatable ghosts, right? While we would love for you to have fun, make sure that all extension cords and wires are free and away from sharp objects, have no frayed or exposed wiring and are taped down safely, if they cross a walkway.

Candles

Lighting a jack o’ lantern is fun -- almost as fun as cutting it up to make a scary face! However, the idea of a long-standing open flame can be an issue. You might be thinking that pumpkins are burn resistant – however, everyone knows someone who’s left a pie in the oven for too long; they can definitely burn! Make sure you’re keeping that candle away from anything else flammable and it’s in a safe area, as well as being put out before you head in for the night.   Better yet, invest in a battery-operated light from a dollar store. They’re perfect for this haunting job…
