Here is an image of the source of loss for this particular home. A faulty electrical panel had caught fire causing extensive damage to the home.
What To Do After a Fire:
- Limit movement in the home to prevent soot particles from being embedded into upholstery and carpets.
- Keep hands clean so as not to further soil upholstery, walls and woodwork.
- Place clean towels or old linens on rugs, upholstery and carpet traffic areas.
- If electricity is off, empty freezer and refrigerator and prop doors open.
- Clean and protect chrome with light coating of petroleum jelly or oil.
- Wash household plants on both sides of leaves
- Change HVAC filter
- Tape double layers of cheesecloth over air registers.
- If the weather looks like it will remain dry you can open windows to ventilate your property and aid drying.
- If you smell gas even in weak concentrations, leave the property immediately and contact the gas provider's emergency notification number. In the case of propane, close the supply valves on the tank(s) and have it professionally checked prior to usage.
- Avoid contact with all live electrical circuits
- Advise your insurance company of both your loss and your desire for urgent remediation.
